This is Wayne Jorgenson. I am a Civil War collector and historian on the First Minnesota Infantry. I am in the final stages of writing a book about the men who served in the First Minnesota Infantry during the Civil War. It is designed to be a compliment to all the excellent books that have already been written on the regiment. This book will have stories about the individual men and lots of pictures. I am sending out an email to all fellow collectors as well as known descendants of members of the regiment with one hope – to find a few additional pictures that I didn’t know existed and then get them into the book.
Specifically, I am looking for Civil War period pictures the men, in uniform if possible, as well as pictures of the artifacts they used, corps badges, uniform parts, weapons, etc. I’d like to ask your help in two ways.
First, if you have a picture of any veteran of the First and would be willing to share it, please send it to me and I will give you full photo credit for it, with my heartfelt thanks. It can be a scan done in TIFF or jpeg format at 600 dpi. Or a print can be mailed to me. I will be happy to pay for the cost of the print and the postage.
You can view my website to see what men we do have pictures of and which ones are still missing. It can be seen at www.1stminnesota.net. Even if I have one pose posted, please contact me if you have a picture of one or more of the men. The one I have may not be in the higher resolution preferred by the publisher.
Secondly, would you please forward this email to every person you know, who may be an image collector or who can also pass on the email to people they know? My hopes follow the six points of separation thought in that if everyone does this, I should be able to contact most of the best people in the country & Europe, that may have pictures to share. I hope to send this to the publisher at the end of April and have it out by September, so time is of the essence. If I can hear back from people in the next 2 to 3 weeks, I’ll be able to get the pictures into the book. If you would be kind enough to forward this on to everyone you know, who is interested in the hobby and then think about whether you might have access to any such war time pictures, I’d greatly appreciate it and again, you will get photo credit in the book.
Please call if you have any thoughts or questions about this search. In case you’d like to see it, I have attached my working title for the book, but the editor will create a different cover when it is published.
Thanks very much for your help, Wayne Jorgenson H 952-937-6181 W 952-921-7922 firstname.lastname@example.org
